Everest

| Everest,
is of course, the highest mountain in Asia, as well as the highest
mountain in the Seven Summits list. |

| Kilimanjaro,
at 19,340 feet, is the highest mountain in Africa, located in Tanzania,
on the border with Kenya. It was first climbed by Europeans in 1889
by Hans Meyer and L Purtscheller. The gentle slopes of this giant
volcano do not present any technical difficulties for Seven Summits
climbers. |

| The
USA has one of the Seven Summits peaks located within its borders.
Denali, at 20,320 feet is the highest mountain in North America,
located in the State of Alaska. |

| Aconcagua,
at 22,834 feet, is the highest mountain in South America, and can
be found in Argentina. It was first climbed in 1898 by the guide
Mattias Zurbriggen. The standard route has no technical difficulty. |

The
rest of the Seven Summits
|
| There
are few books describing the remaining Seven Summits peaks. Elbrus
in Russia is the highest peak in Europe, at 18,481 feet. Elbrus
is now very popular with European mountaineers. The Carstenz Pyramid
is in Indonesia and is over 16,500 feet high. It was finally climbed
in 1961 by Heinrich Harrer and Phillip Temple. Antarctica's summit
is the Vinson Massif, 16,860 feet. It was first climbed by a US
expedition in 1966. |
